I recently bought a second hand canon 1d mk 2 but the dpp software that came with my 1000d wont recognise it , I been told I need a copy of the dpp that came with camera which I don't have so can anyone suggest where I might get a copy from?
 
I think i have a copy...do you just want to use it for editing shots? i cant see why it wouldnt recognise the raws/jpegs from the 1d..
 
The Problem is when I plug the 1d in the menu that normally appears and highlights the download images won't allow me to down load images , I can download images into my pictures on my pc then transfer it to elements and tbh I prefer to do adjustments in dpp
 
1dmk2 uses it's firewire connection only to transfer photos. Have you been using the usb port on it? (that's specifically for direct printing only).

I'd advise a card reader if you don't have a firewire connection on your computer. Faster and saves battery power on the camera anyway.

It's basically a different way of connecting to a computer. It used to be more popular than it is now as usb1 was very slow.

Anyways, 1dmk2 has a firewire port that has to be used to copy photos off and change certain advanced settings. The usb port on the camera is for directly connecting to a printer only.
It'd be easier getting a CF card reader rather than installing a firewire port on your computer if it hasn't got one.
 
There is not separate version of DPP for each camera, if you have the latest version 3.11.1 then it will work with ALL EOS bodies.

Not according to page 124 of the manual, but I do agree a Card Reader is MUCH better.

Not sure what manual you have but thats not on p124 of my paper one. The usb is actually laballed as "direct print terminal" in my manual too.

This question often pops up from new mk2 owners and it's nearly always because the usb won't work with DPP/any of the canon software.

It could be the pc / windows not supporting it.

I couldn't connect my 300D to the pc when I moved away from XP. I managed a workaround, but as soon as a different body is connected, then I couldn't reconnect the 300.

Checked on canons web and it's not supported by anything newer than XP. Could be the same for the 1D ???
Don't have any issues with swapping either of the other bodies around.
 
Check in the menu relating to connection - might be an option for PTP and MASS STORAGE (or similar) - could be this that's preventing the camera from connecting....
 
There have been forum posts of this question for years now... The mk2 NEEDS firewire to connect to DPP or any of the Canon software properly.
I actually make a point of answering this question when i see it because i know how confusing it can be for new owners.
I've been using my mk2 for years now and usb has NEVER worked for what the OP is trying to do.
Search DPreview or any other large forum and you will see the same question asked and answered from years back.

DPP does edit mk2 files. The canon software just won't connect to transfer through the camera.

I can transfer pics from my 1d to mac with the usb into lightroom etc. I don't use dpp, but can't you just import the shots into say..my pictures then import them into dpp? Tbh you don't want to use the usb port on it for that tho as its 1.1 and horribly slow to transfer!

Likes been mentioned, for canon software you've gotta use firewire I believe, as if I want to use eos utility I've got to, and to shot tethered, even in LR you need to use firewire.

This is technically an Eos Utility problem i believe as that is the box that comes up when you plug in a canon camera usually. Dpp just loads the files when Eos utility has finished transfering.
I have no experience of Macs, but for windows, he's either going to have to get a firewire addon card for his pc or a CF card reader.

When i decided to build a new computer that wouldn't have firewire a few years ago, i remember plugging in my 1D one last time through the firewire to make sure all the custom functions that i'd ever need were enabled (yes it's so dependant on firewire that you can't even change all the custom functions without enabling them in eos utility first).
Really glad Canon has done away with that ridiculous procedure.

I found this also, custom functions can be done in camera, personal functions have to be done through eos utility. Do you have all your settings saved to a card then? if not, what happens if you camera defaults and you need to setup your personal functions again?
 
The latest version of EOS Utility doesn't work with my 350D either, I suspect they drop earlier models after a certain period, one way Canon 'encourages' you to upgrade.

You need an older version, i had to do this with my 1d..still available on canons site!

Yea hopefully it doesn't then, may be worth just saving them to a card tho..(i think you can save personal functions, defo custom ones tho)

Spot on, there is no problem with DPP, but I did have a quick look and the 1DII in not supported in the most recent EOS Utility. So either find an older version, or just download to computer and then point DPP to your picture folder.
