Dslr service

Sent mine to be repaired and, they cleaned it, I think that's about it....
 
Lawrence, what was wrong with your camera and what was the repair bill.

The reason I ask is that on Wednesday night I was barged in the back at a rugby match and my camera (D300s) hit the ground and when I looked the lens (70-200 2.8) had come off and both the fitting plates have been damaged, so they will be going in for repair on Tuesday, probably to Fixation in London.

Thankfully it will be an insurance claim.
 
I just wondered if any of the internal mechanical parts would be checked, greased etc.
Mine is at fixation at the moment for a service, has done 50k shutter activations and I thought prevention would be better than a cure, there has always been some crud on the viewfinder which I am hoping will also be gone when I get it back.
 
My 40D went for a service and minor repair, came back with a cleaned sensor, cleaner viewfinder, completely fixed and I'm sure the shutter press is lighter than it used to be.
 
I dropped it an spilt orange juice on it! :( again it was covered with Argos but thy had to replace the screen mechanism, and the top ad rear plates. It cost about £280, they definitely cleaned it as there was dust on the sensor and VF before it went.
 
I think there might be more damage than at first thought. I managed to get my Sigma 150-500 on the camera today and during the rugby this afternoon the camera froze and the shutter wouldn't fire at all. So I turned it off and on again and it started working again.

Then about 10-15 mins later it did it again and it happened again halfway through the 2nd half, every time I turned it off and back on again it started working.

It could have been a dodgy connection as the f-mount is damaged. Fingers crossed.

How much did that cost and who did it? Might give my camera a treat at some point.
 
£165 at H. Lehmanns in Stoke.

Other places do it a little cheaper, but I happened to be going in that direction anyway so I dropped it off and picked it up myself so didn't pay postage.
 
'Tis a bit steep for a sensor and viewfinder clean if that's all they're doing.

I wouldn't bother unless your cameras really getting on or you've got a fault.
 
I have been wondering this, thinking of sending mine of at the end of the year, has had a couple of thousands auctions from all the MTB events i have been to etc... with many more to come.

Will they check everything and tweak the AF etc...
 
Mine went to fixation £90 all in Inc return.
Probably ended. Up with just a clean and check over but with a wedding coming up for a friend I just wanted it properly checked etc as it had done almost 50k activations...
 
Yes, they replaced a slightly faulty circuit board and button.

If it hadn't been faulty I'd never pay that much for just a service.
 
a friend had my old D40x he bought of me serviced at Calumet in manchester and I think it was £40 for a clean up service
 
Put a lens in to LCE for a repair and asked how much for a check over and sensor clean for my Sony a450.......£30, admittedly there was no repair quoted in there:bonk:
