Hi all.
Didn't know if this was the right section to put this in............

Anyway, I have a Hitachi ax-m140 home theatre system. Hi-fi/DVD/DAB radio/hard-drive/all-in-one jobby thing.

Getting a problem when we try to watch DVDs:

This happens, a horrid screeching noise through the speakers, and the unit becomes un-responsive. Can't eject, stop, nothing. Can turn the unit off, but it doesn't help. Still can't do anything until I unplugged it. When I plug it back in I can then eject the disk, and all is normal. Until you try to play a disk, then the same happens again!!!!

Can anyone help?
Paid allot of money for this toy, so I hope it isn't FUBAR'ed :'(

Does it play CDs through the same drive? If so, do they play? I assume you've tried a different DVD?

I have to say it looks borked to me - DVD drives generally just don't read the disk if they are dirty :(

i have had one in the past where a hair was waving around in front of the lens causing pixelation etc.. granted not as bad as this.

if it is borked then it may be worth looking at separate units (dvd/br, amp, radio etc), its less to go wrong in a single box and generally theyre better units.

Thanks chaps.

God I hope it's not FUBAR'ed :'(

It happens on ALL DVD's. CD's are fine.................

How have you got it connected to the tv?

Is there any region setting on the unit?

Cheers guys.

It is factory set to the UK region I guess (can't think what that is off the top of my head!!!)

It's connected via the virgin media set top box.

Haven't tried ok another tv. Should i?

I'd plug it directly into the tv with a scart or composite cable, I never run analogue gear through my set top boxes as you will always get interference unless you are going fully digital and are using hdmi which your kit doesn't use...

Thanks chaps. Haven't had time to try any of your ideas, but hopefully soon.........

(PS - don't have the receipt anymore. Beside, warranty is well out of date :( )
