Hi,

I understand that to put dvd's on to the xbox harddrive for watching later that they need to be ripped to a different format. Does anyone have any reccomendations for the best way to do so and what is the better software (preferably free) to use. I have used google and it comes up with tons of different free software so was looking for a reccomendation from you good people.

Cheers

Nick

have a look here Nick;

it's just a shame the 360 won't read raw vob files, otherwise you could just rip the dvd's to an iso or video_ts folder. Thinkthe easiest solution is to attach the drive to your pc, rip the dvd's to an iso then stream it to the 360 with something like TVersity. Ripping dvd's and converting to another format is a tedious process, especially if you have a lot of dvd's :(

From your description I am guessing the DVD's are not ones you own, borrowed etc. otherwise you could just play the DVD in the xbox tray!

As above http://tversity.com/ would probably be your best option, it effectively tricks the xbox into thinking all file types presented are in the correct format.

Thanks for the replies. I will have alook through that link in a bit.

The DVD's are all mine it is just that the Xbox is my sons who has special needs and I am trying to restrict the amount of time he is changing discs as he can be a but hit and miss with his movements.

Ok, TVersity is what you need, it acts as a Media Server which the Xbox will see on your network and play most media formats with little issue.
It is also controllable in that you can set up the 'shared folders' that TVersity uses so it will only show what you decide and not all the media on the pc.
