Ok guy's I'm still reading up but can't get my head around what I need
I have just bought a Nikon D5200 with a 18-55 lens,
I want another lens that will give me more distance!
My goal is a 70-200 (and a 50mm) but I'm not looking at spending that much untill I am used to the camera,
So I am looking at the 50-200, 55-200, 55-300 or the 70-300, I realize the quality isn't going to be great with these but it's a start!
What would be the better second lens for me to buy?

What sort of budget are you looking at and would you consider second hand?

Heather,Dave thanks for the quick reply's..
Second hand would get me a better deal so if the right one came along then yes that would be fine,
Budget right now would be around the 150 mark now I have just bought a bag and a few other things :)

There's a Nikon 55-200 VR on the evilbay just now, 1 day to go. It should go for about £90ish.
The 55-200 is better than the 70-300

the 70-300 vr is amazing at that price range. 100% better than the 55-200 etc get the 70-300vr highly recommended (y) you'll also probably keep it after you upgrade to the 70-200 2.8 for the extra reach hth mike

55-300 would give you the extra range and you could probably get one within budget second hand. (£40 cashback if bought new, but over budget)

....would also link well with your 18-55mm.

i bought the d3200 a few months ago and i got the 55- 200 lens almost straight away. if i remember correctly i got it from ebay for about a 100 quid. for me at the moment its a great lens for a beginner. but then father christmas brought me a 35mm 1.8 g so i want to have a good play with that for a while. my plan of attack is to put the other lenses away and just go out with the 35 mm. good luck in your search.

I meant the 55-200VR is better than the standard 70-300 :)
New ones are going for about £95 if you look around.

I don't know the 70-300VR, so can't advise.

yeah i worked that out ken after i saw the op's budget :) but i would still get the 70-300vr and not have to replace it later. i still use mine as a walkabout lens at zoos etc. cheers mike

Thanks for the advise all (y)
Just done a 90 mile round trip to pick a 55-200 VR up as I couldn't wait to get one delivered

Good grief!

Enjoy :)
