Ebay Triggers - mixing camera/flash brands

Right, basically i am trying to come up with a cheap lighting solution for work (for taking product photos).

They already have stands and umbrellas. What they need is some flashes. The catch is that they wont replace the camera, instead preferring to use their own cameras (fair enough as most of them have nice consumer SLR's).

Now Canon Speedlights are pretty cheap used, so a couple of 430 ex1's should do the job nicely. However, they obviously all need to be able to remote fire these.

This is where my questions comes in. If i used ebay triggers to set the flashes off, would it be possible to buy a kit for Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc... and just change the TX, figuring that they just send a fire signal to the receiver so it doesn't matter if the flash matches the camera that triggered.

Does that make sense?

I've got a set of the RF 602's. The only specific camera part of those is the cable that allows you to use them as a remote camera shutter trigger as well as a flash trigger.

If you're using Ebay-type triggers (PT-04, RF-602) then as long as the flashguns have a trigger voltage under 12v then you can mix and match to your heart's content. I, for example, use Nikon SB-900/ SB-26s with my Panasonic GF-1.

So another question, you can fire the ebay triggers using the PC socket on the camera. Now knowing nothing about any cameras besides Canon (and arguably including) is this a generic connector?
