Nice shots, especially the first, but needs a bit of a contrast boost/sharpen in photoshop methinks.

They are good they are, tho like ewan says they could do with a tweak.
Elements3,4 or 5 will do the job nicely and is stack cheaper than PS

I've just adjusted the contrast, and tweaked the levels, but only slightly. Unsharp mask has made a difference too.

If you drop me a PM, I'll find you a genuine copy of Elements and post it to you - it won't be the latest edition, but I got a copy free with my old 20D.
