Hey guys,

A really simple (i hope), newbie question.

When fitted to a camera with a cropped sensor, is there a difference between the EF and EF-S lenses? (or similar from 3rd parties)

I appreciate there may be quality or build differences, but it's magnification differences that i'm concerened with.

I have a cropped sensor, but thinking that at some time in the future (years probably) i'll upgrade to a full size sensor, so, if i look to be buying EF (or similar) now, what difference will i see?

What say you guys?

Cheers

Steve

No difference with magnification at all between the 2 lens types.

Obviously EF for better future-proofing (as you've mentioned)

Excellent !!! I can continue my internet window shopping now !

On a related note, is there a problem in attaching a lens with a plastic mount to a camera with a metal mount, or vice-versa? (assuming camera and body are otherwise compatible - I know about not attaching EF-S lenses to full-frame bodies, for example)

A.

Nope, no problem at all.

Only the very cheap lenses come with the plastic mount, all bar the kit lens, and the 50mm f1.8 that i own have metal mounts, and they fit fine, just a bit more hard wearing.
