Encrypted repositories

Hi All

Does anybody know if there is such thing as a Flickr-style image repository where individual folders can be encrypted so that images within galleries are only viewable upon entering a password?

The reason I ask is that I want to shoot sport whereby the images aren't available for general consumption (in accordance with organisations' rules) but available to media outlets whom I propose to sell the images to under licence.

Many thanks to anybody who can help.

Russ

Smugmug do password protected galleries too. Think it is all paid for though but the costs are reasonably modest.

Encrypted repositories sounds like an uncomfortable medical condition :)

More to the point though, you think media outlets want to sit and browse through your images? Should you not be sending images directly to these outlets?

Dunno really Brian.

If I was a picture editor I think I'd rather choose from 10 images in a one click+password gallery than 10 images from an email. It's a worthy discussion though...

Anyway I really like the look of SmugMug. For <£25 a year it doesn't seem bad at all.

Cheers Team.

I have found with editors that they are busy and clicking through to a gallery and having to do stuff is too much. They want the images where they have immediate access if they want to use them not have to jump through hoops to get to them. Clicking through to a gallery is more trouble than an email as generally email programs open the entire lot in in front of their face without them having to do anything!

Whatever method you use needs an easy way of them downloading the ones they want.

I was wrong - that's superb value

Looks like the only extra benefits of Power is being able to customise the presentation and Pro is being able to turn on the sales features.
I'm sure it wasn't that simple when I subscribed, or I would have gone for Power rather than Pro - hey ho.....

I use Photoshelter for this sort of stuff, you can have different rights to the same gallery for different people, which could be useful.

If it's anything like press work then the pic ed isn't going to look through a gallery to see if there's anything he wants, then note down the filename(s), then contact you to ask what your terms are, then remember the filename he wanted, then ask you to send it. He'll want an email with images which have your payment and copyright details in the metadata so that when he sees something he wants, he has it.

Thanks for the advice Brian – useful.

Have you ever come across a picture editor that's preferred not to receive a chunky email containing 5 or 10 full res pics in their inbox?

Do you think there's scope for sending a full-res suggested 'best' picture accompanied by a gallery link of alternatives?

Nationals might trawl AP/Reuters for an image, I doubt they'd trawl your website and regionals certainly won't bother/care.

Make some sensible choices of image that go with the story, just stick to a handful and email them in. If you have attached more than 25mb of pics, you are probably sending too many at full size :)
