The brother in law has a Sony A200. He doesn't really use it that much and most definitely will never become a professional. He just takes the camera out here and there. His current love is the 'Mach Loop' - Now I didn't know what this was till I Googled it.
He wants to buy a new lens and I've said that 300mm should be fine. Can anyone advise? I also said to him (I am a beginner myself) that his A200 might not be up to scratch for these kind of photos...

Am I wrong? I am just worried he will buy an expensive lens for an outdated camera. He could find a deal somewhere that comes with a decent Nikon or Canon with a lens for not much more. He would not need a £3000 one! Budget here is about £800-£1000.
I really appreciate any input or advise. And I hope all this makes sense and I've not asked too many questions.
