Hi

I am new to this forum and fairly new to photography. I am looking to buy an DSLR within the next month and throw myself straight into the thick of it.

I would love to be in a position to sell my prints online when I am more experienced (please dont think I am saying anyone can point and shoot so dont take offence)

What equipment would suffice? I am looking at a Nikon d5000 to start off?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Pretty much any DSLR on the current market will suffice; it's what you do with it that will be the deciding factor as to whether the images you produce will be of sufficient quality/interest to sell.

Most advice on here will be along the lines of draw up a short list of cameras that you think might fulfill your needs, and then get down to your local camera store to handle those cameras to see which ones feel comfortable enough for you to get on with.

Also bear in mind that if you intend to take your photography further, look at the manufacturers who have sufficiently diverse systems behind the camera bodies as to meet your future requirements.

i started off with a sony 350 thinking it was great.. after 18months relising that it wasnt all that and it was hard to find anything cheap to add to it (lenses etc)

So i have just sold that and got a D5000 and its great. im now looking at getting a D90 to be my main body.

I have my D40x for sale in the classifieds (link in my sig), though I'm guessing you're wanting to buy new.

Upgrading to a D90, as I now feel I've learnt the basics and want a bit more oomph
