Yes
One sees it more and more,"I'm tired of dragging the DSLR around . . . " or the "what way should I jump", "which camera is best" . . . Its beginning to get to me:cuckoo:

I have silenced all my demons . . . well got them under control:thinking:

The worst scenario is the "I want to down size from DSLR to Bridge or compact" . . . "but I dont like *** and dont want *** but must have*** . . . "

Trouble is, I agree :suspect: Dragging 2 or 3 pounds of camera and lens around on a strap around ones neck, plus the bag full of lenses recommended, the must have whizz-bang flash gun, 95 filters and paraphernalia to attach them, a tripod of course . . . its no wonder there are desperate cries, "I want to down size".

I've got down as far as a G1, and one lens, why not a GF1? no decent viewfinder, the G1 is pretty-dam-good for a EVF.

The problem, manufacturers have scraped the compact with a viewfinder, I know they were not special, but when the sun shines, a rear view screen is about as much use a a 'chocolate teapot'. Its all about size, we want small . . . but large rear screen and as thick as two credit cards:bang:

Mobile telephones have gone this rout, smaller and smaller, buttons so small, my 'sausage likes' always push two buttons at a time:shrug: Watched a young lady the other day, her fingers were a bluer over her miniscule telephone keyboard. Perfect a text in seconds, then I realised, long finely manicured nails, like stylus, they were.

However, mobile phones are getting bigger . . . more functions, is this a sign of the times. Will compacts start to get bigger so they have room to include that essential eye viewfinder . . . ? have a 28-200mm lens and no shutter delay, is that really to much to ask?

According to the comments one reads, the current breed of compacts are producing 'quality' pictures . . . :naughty: . . . compromise with a pinch of salt? Certainly good enough, so give it a couple of centimeters and lets see the compact really come of age . . .

It sounds like what you need is a 35mm rangefefinder. ;)

Range finder . . . those were the days . . .

I'm fairly well sorted these days, G1 or D5000, but still the cry comes from others, 'must down grade, to much to drag around'. And still the recommendations go to the unsuspecting; camera **** + xxxx number of lenses, omitting to recommend a body building course to cope with the 'ball and chain' disguised as camera and its required fitments ;) Failing to point out to the poor 'lambs', the mortgage required . . . Perhaps cameras should be stamped with a health warning?

Its a hobby . . . for most of us, its about taking pictures . . .

Cynical . . . me . . . CJS :naughty:
