Experimenting with nlite.

Has anyone ever experimented with nlite?

This is a program which allows slipstreaming so as to integrate the latest XP, vista or Windows 7 updates into a single Windows disc which can then be used as you OS disc.

I have used slipstreaming before - My original Windows XP Pro disc was an upgrade disc and so needed another OS already on the PC.

In my case this was ME.

But after slipstreaming and integrating SP3 into it it then installed with no need for another copy of Windows on the PC.

But nlite goes much further than this and allows you to remove a lot of Windows stuff you might never use - like the tour and that stupid animated dog in search - and a lot of other stuff.

It can also incorporate the activation code into the disc so no need to enter it every time you re-install Windows.

So has anyone ever used it to any extent.

I tried it yesterday but it only got so far as the opening Windows splash page after copying the files and the kept re-starting so wondered if anyone else has ever used it?

Or is it a case of keep removing a little at a time and seeing how it works?

I've used nlite, but only to slipstream a set of RAID drivers into XP-SP3. It worked fine. I'd start with a standard install and learn how it works before hacking large bits of the OS out...

Yup that's what I did - I now have an XP PRO disk which does a clean install (totally unattended - no more putting in the activation code etc) - IN LESS THAN 13 MINUTES! - which includes ALL the drivers for my PC!

And the size of the finished installation is less than 3GB!

And it starts up extremely quickly - I am definitely pleased.
