Is there any or much difference between the expensive Canon ones, and the generic (AF version) ones from ebay, and Kenko in between?

It may be used with some heavy (1.5kg) lenses. Good alignment is important.
 
I use a set of Kenko tubes which I bought on here and they are perfectly adequate to support my Canon 70-300mm L IS USM lens which weighs in at 37ozs (1Kg) with no problems even when all three are connected together.

I've tried my Kenko set on my 100-400 L and although it makes things awkward it holds the weight easy enough. Only used it twice though and only for short periods, but it should be ok. Just had a look on the Kenko website but it doesn't say anything about weight limits but it says you can "convert almost any lens" so I don't see a problem.
 
The Polaroid ones seem to hold up my 80-200 f/2.8L with no issues and it's a bit of a beast weght wise... not sure I ever want to use the tubes on it, but now at least I know I can :)

The 200mm IS macro setup is quite tempting hence I am looking at it. I hope this gives comparable IQ to my 100 non-L macro. I cannot quite justify 180L which doesn't even have IS!
 
I have the kenko tubes and they are great, just as a side note is/vr becomes less effective the closer you get to 1:1
