Hi, just brought a Nikon 55-300 av for wildlife on holiday and have a bit of spare cash. Can I extend the length with a converter if I want? Not sure i'll need it but weighing up my options. Thanks for any help

doubt it tele converters can only be used on certain lenses.

* Autofocus cannot be used.
Other lenses cannot be used. Do not attach other lenses since the rear elements of the lens will touch and may damage the elements in the teleconverter.

As above tele converters will only work with certain lenses. Nikon website has listed their lenses which the tele converters work with.

Just to correct that list.

I can assure you that the 500 F4,300 F4 and 200-400 F4 will autofocus with teleconverters on the D90,D200,D300 and D700. Possibly others as well, but definately those four bodies.

Absolutely. You can add the D3/D3s and D4 to that list. The D4 will focus with the 2 x converter fitted also. Fast.

Can anyone recommend a teleconverter that will work with the 55-300mm please? I'm in the exact same boat, going on safari in November but I'm worried I won't have enough reach.

Other places on the net have mentioned the Kenko ones but I've no idea about these as I've currently never used one.

The Kenko 300 pro 1.4 is a good tc a may work ok. They do a cheaper version as well

Just to clarify that the lists of lenses that are/aren't compatable on Nikon's web site only relate to Nikon teleconverters. Kenko, in particular, make some excellent TCs which will work on lenses that Nikon list as being incompatable.

Steve, the lenses I mention with work the Nikon 1.4 and 1.7.

Just for the record..............:thumbs:
