I hope I have not caught another cold. I have bought an Eye-fi connect x 2 4GB card and a sd-cf adapter but the camera is not happy - it tells me to format the card but won't let me. Anyone know a solution or should I have done my homework better first?

I've been wondering if this was possible , as it appears you are having issues it may not be . Have you updated to the latest firmware ? I don't think that there is anyway around this though . I have read that when using an adaptor some cameras still don't like it . If you have a standard SD card you could try to format that one and see if it's the SD card that it doesn't like or just the eye-fi card .

I was wanting to try this for the longest time, and did no end of research.

The conclusion seemed to be 'try it and see' which wasn't particularly helpful. Some adapters work fine, some don't. Sometimes the images transmit, sometimes they don't. Hardly seemed like a reliable system for a lot of people unfortunately and it seems like a fantastic idea.

Thanks for the replies - I will try the firmware upgrade first and see where that gets me - I was hoping someone would come on and tell me they had it working:)

I never got it one to work with my 5d II despite all the firmware being up to date.

The rumour I've heard/read is that the early Eye-Fi Pro (non X2 model) worked fine with CF adaptors.

I ended up getting a Canon Wireless Transmitter - which works fantastically

How long does the CWT take to transmit a full res RAW file ?

This is a review off Amazon .....................

I have been using this card for months now. I have just learned this week, that because of public opinion, the website used to administrate and organise ones photos on the cards, has changed. With high expectations I have used the site to try and get a hold of my photos which mysteriously vanished on several occasions since May. I should add that those photos that did make it off the card, were not geotagged correctly.
This is an expensive piece of kit and it needs to be reliable across ALL my camera platforms. I would not touch this card with a barge pole - even literally! It is unstable and does not do what 'it says on the tin'. Eye-Fi support is appalling to us users in the UK. Definately not recommended

Thought about one of these myself when Jessops were selling them off cheap.

Found out that the newer Eye-Fi cards no longer work with CF Adapters so didn't bother.

I've never tried transmitting a RAW file. The WFT-E4 transmits a JPEG in about 3-5 seconds using an 802.11g and File Zilla server.

I've got a shoot at the weekend so will try with a RAW file for you and let you know....

Right Ben, just had a quick play for you:

A 27mb CR2 took roughly 25 seconds, I was sat pretty close to the wireless router, so obviously the speed would change dependant on the distance.

HTH,
