family portrait focus point

Just a quickie .......... when shooting a family portrait, is there a rule of thumb where the focus point should be? I know you should get the eyes in focus, but if there are 5 people, should you go on the central person maybe?:shrug:

Would you not shoot at f9 or f11 to get the whole group in focus?

Just shoot in manual mode and have the lights set accordingly to as said prior to F9-F11. I mainly shoot at f10 for studio group portraits. Works every time for me even with larger groups of ten, in rows. Hope that helps
