Hello everyone,
Right let me set the scene. I have a 15 year old Automatic 100-200mm canon zoom lens which was once my grandfathers, I started using it about 9months ago and have no trouble with it what so ever. I have taken probably several thousands of photos with this lens because it is my only zoom lens and I am a wildlife photographer. But over the last couple of weeks it has been really tormenting me; I have had several decent oppotunities with shooting wildlife but due to its faults it has not allowed me to use it.
The problem with it is that it won't focus. At 100mm it will focus immediately like it always use too, but when zooming further it will start to focus on the subject then focus out, then back in, then back out. Sometimes this whole focusing in and out buisness will go on forever, and by that point the wildlife I had been trying to photography has heard the immense racket the lens is making by trying to focus and fled! However sometimes it will focus right out, but then after several half clicks of the shutter button it will final lock into focus and then start doing the whole focusing in and out again! But on the very odd occasion it will focus after a few attempts at focusing out.
Now i have experimented with this problem and can't find any reason for it to be doing this, good lighting, changing settings etc. Yet nothing has stopped the problem!
So if anyone has any idea what is going on with it please let me know!! This is driving me up the wall! So if anyone has even the smallest idea of what is wrong please talk!!
