Feisol tripods, your opinion please

Thinking about buying a Feisol 3442 Rapid tripod and would like to hear your comments especially from owners satisfied or not

I want something 50cm or under when closed and height of at least 125cm without using the centre column, weight is also a consideration

Just cant afford a Gitzo and Feisol seem like a cheaper and decent quality alternative

Any other suggestions also welcomed

Hi Rich

I looked at Feisol recently for pretty well the same reason as you have .....did a little research via google and found one or two disappointed users. They make ref to faulty components and some opinions say that they start to look worse for wear at around 12 months old. I decided to stump up for the Gitzo eventually as you never really hear a bad word said about them.

Best to do your own research though them make a judgement then.

Thanks for the reply Steve, did a bit of research myself and thought the positive reviews outweighed the negative, but that's why I have asked for others opinions.

If you don't mind please can I ask which Gitzo did you buy?

Mmm thought you might ask...it's a long story but i ended up picking up 2 :bonk:....and can't use either at the moment as I'm overseas with work.
The G-1128 MK2 from the Mountineer range and the GT-1541T Traveller. My brother uses a Traveller and loves it so I went for one I saw being sold on a watch forum I frequent. The other I picked up from posting an add on gumtree...was offered it at a goodpricebso took it.

Won't get to checkout either until June though when I'm back on leave.
 
Thanks Steve, was looking at the GT-2541 from the Mountaineer range, but would have preferred it to be a bit shorter closed

Wasn't sure about the GT-1541T, looked a bit lightweight and short without the central column for my height, also not sure it would fold back over my Markins head properly

Decision, decisions and still not sure, given the price would have thought that the Gitzo warranty would be lifetime rather than five years, have a feeling it used to be

The Traveller is really good to be honest and is not a compromise because of its light weight.....packs a bigger punch than you might imagine. Which Markins do you have as the Q3t works a treat with the folding leg arrangement of the Gitzo.
 
I have the M10 and got a feeling it might be a bit on the large size, will have another look at the traveller after what you have said

I've had a Fiesol for some time, no problems. I bought it (Traveller CT-3441) because it's small and light.

I believe they were a lot cheaper when I got mine, exchange rates and all that.

It does for me, small and light were the main requirements.

I recently bought a used Gitzo GT1542T from Ffordes. I'm using it with the mini ball head from my Redsnapper monopod. The quality is top notch and as the legs+head weigh 1.3kg I carry it as a matter of course now, whereas I used to only take my much larger Redsnapper (twice the weight!) if I knew I would be using it. Strapped to my Kata 3N1 30 I dont know it's there, and if I'm going light with a lens or two it fits securely under the large flap of my Thinktank retro 10. It wasn't cheap but the build and material quality suggest it will last a long time.

I've not had any problems, I use mine mainly for 360 panoramas and wanted a tripod I could get in my check in luggage without a problem and this does the job. My only regret is that my head came with a unique circular quick release plate whereas the latest ball heads seem to come with a Arca type plate (I think).

I can't comment on quality compared to the Gitzos, I've never seen a Gitzo in the wild.
