Few snow shots on new D40

I am new to photography and only owned my D40 for 2 weeks now, popped out late afternoon just as darkness was falling on Sunday and caught the following, they look rather different after hosting from Photobucket, seem to have lost their sharpness and clarity or something.

Hello there,

Nice first set, looks a lovely location. Just a point to bear in mind, your horizon in the first 2 slope down from the right.
Its a good camera the D40 and can get you some really nice shots. A good start, well done and keep posting.
There will be some cleverer people along soon to give you some proper c&c.
