Hi,

I'm looking to buy a relatively cheap dolly track. Straight, nothing fancy and doesn't need to be very long.

There's ones on eBay for 50-100£ - should these be avoided? What are the negatives of buying something this cheap and not £400 ones?

I've not used any of the cheap ebay sliders, but I've got a Hague travel slider & I find that to struggle getting a smooth slide with heavy cameras & lenses unless you support the weight. Some of the more expensive sliders have a pulley system so slides are much more consistent in speed. Try & get one with proper bearings not just nylon inserts.

As your asking for a dolly and not a slider, the answer should be very little.

The only main difference is in the bearings on the tripod casters.

Well I'm looking for a slider I guess - track - whatever the technical term is
I'm putting a Genie on it which pulls itself along.

A dolly is like a train track you roll a tripod on. A slider is much smaller.
