Filter and Len Questions

I have picked up two nice lens from a local auction house and the lens appear to be in very good condition, no fungus or scratches etc

Also noticed that there has been two Hoya Skylight filters on them, first question what do Skylight filters do? Second it appears that the Skylight filters have taken the brunt on dirt etc. One of the filters appears to have watermarks or fungus on, I am not sure, what is the best way to clean these filters?

Also if it is fungus, will it matter to use the lens on my camera or will there be a contamination problem and then my camera can get fungus? As I said before the lens look in A1 condition with no signs of problems but I just want to make sure.

A skylight is very light pink plus UV filter (pop it on a sheet of white paper to see). It's used for film photography where some films are a bit over-sensitive to blue light and UV. Not much use for digital.

Clean it with fairly liquid. The fungus might have eaten away some of the surface if it's a coated filter.
