Filter Question

I have a 77mm Lee filter kit.
If I buy a lens with a 82mm filter thread do I just need to buy a 77mm to 82mm step up ring?

No. The threads will be the wrong way around. The step up rings are to use a larger filter on a smaller lens, not the other way around. You need a step down ring (fleabay for £5). Depending on the lens and aperture, you may get vignetting - possibly a hard vignette.

No, it would actually be a step down ring, so you run the risk of heavy vignetting. If you've invested in the Lee filter system, you may as well buy an 82mm adaptor ring. If its for an ultra wide lens, then you might be better off with the wide angle version.
