Hi All

Just bought the Sigma 10-20mm to go with my 50D. I'm looking to add a ND/ND grad filter system for waterfalls and general landscapes. I've checked out some threads on the subject but am still confused re vignetting. Some seem to use a Cokin P system, others a P system after hacking bits off , while others say the X pro system or others.

Is there anyone out there with this lens who can help me?

Thanks
RJL

Yep, just either get a Cokin P holder which is specifically for the wide angle lens or do what i done and bought 2 cokin p holders one for use with my other kit lens (3 slots) and the one for use with the Sigma 10-20 you have to cut off 2 slots leaving just the one, this way you can use the lens at 10mm with no filter holder in your pictures/no vignetting.
I cut mine using a hacksaw, just go carefull using the slot 2 on the holder as a guide and you`ll be fine.

As for filters i highly recommend the 85mm Hitech ones, these will be fine with the Sigma 10-20mm, Anymore questions just ask away.

i use a sigma 10-20 & hitech 85mm filters and even with the cokin P wide angle holder got vignetting @ anything wider than approx 13 mm.

so just recently i bought 1 of these

from that seller and took a hacksaw to it ,cutting off the first slot then cutting off the rest of it and glueing it back together, result a holder with 1 slot only , very very slight vignetting at 10 mm in 2 corners only gone at 11mm .

the alternative is as you say the next size up cokin Z /hitech 100mm & as far as i know you cant get a whydangle holder in that size ,so the problem may well start again..

Alot of cutting glueing going on there, just simply cut off the last 2 slots, leaving you only the one slot. Simple as.

I can vouch 100% that there is no vignetting at 10mm the way i done it.

If I get the P wide angle holder does that avoid the cutting? Edit - I've just noticed its only got the one slot so I guess so!

NO thats why i did what i did .

the first slot for me is the slot @ the front of the filter holder NOT the slot nearest the lens .

me thinks thats where the confuzellment is happening .

the slot closest to the lens is for a CPL & is narrower than the other slots .

i cant vouch for that however you`d prob be better buying a normal holder and cutting it because for some daft reason they charge more for the wide angle holder.

This is the one i bought £3.32 cant complain.

Ah daftbugga i see your point now, fair play. Thing is i only cut off the last 2 slots and that done the trick for me, definately no vignetting at all.?!?!?

Would it be easier for everyone if some photos were added? lol

Ok here is a pic so you know where to cut, the original on the left the cut version on the right:

With my 10-22mm, Lee wideangle adapter and 100mm filters, I only get vignetting when using 4 filters stacked AND my cpl ontop
