Yes
I just got a pair of filters off fleabay, they are the hoya pro1D's the PL-C is fine after a clean but the UV has a couple of marks on the outer edge, whats the best way of checking if it will show up on a shot ?

the sellers got no objection to returning it for refund but i cant see the point if it does not show up.

apart from the obvious whats the best way to bring out a mark on the filter ?

white sheet, over or under exposed etc. flash on, off or bright surroundings..

Take a photo of something through the filter?

That's funny :D

I think the best way would be to have a bright light source incident on the filter at a shallow angle i.e at the side. My guess would be more diffraction occuring from the scratch. Just my theory, not really that sure. Also maybe a large aperture.

think perhaps dialing down as far as you can go helps F/22 etc. then manual focus to see if you can see it. Thats how u find dust on the sensor anyway. so i reckon it would show up

ahh well, i can see a mark where it is so im sending it back. thanks for the help.
