Filters on a Sigma 12-24mm lens?

Yes
I got this lens for landscapes (duh) and was most unimpressed to find that it does not take filters, no filters of any description as far as I can see. It has a built on lens hood and won't take anything. This is not much good for landscape shots. Am I missing something? I vaguely imagined there was some sort of slot into which Cokin type filters were inserted but no, can't see one.

The filters go in the rear of the lens

The lens cap is a sort of bucket thing and if you take the actual cap off and leave the bucket fitted it will then take a Cokin filter holder...but the chances are that you'll then see it in all of your photos unless you zoom in.

Yes. You're missing the fact that this lens is so insanely wide, it wouldn't be possible to use any normally sized filters without them showing in the frame.

You can't fit filters to the front of a fisheye either. Same reason. But nobody complains about that.

I have used 100mm ND Grad filters on this lens using a couple of small bits of blue tack to hold them onto the edges of the Hood. This only works with the lens on the tripod as almost any movement makes them fall off. Can be done though as some of the petals extend beyond the lens!

Don't hold out much hope of being able to do the same though on my future 17L TSE !

Somewhere in the box there should be a little metal template for cutting gel filters to fit in the slot behind the rear element. Not much use for grads or pols but fine for plain filters. Grads and pols need to be bodged using blu-tak (or similar) on the hood if using a FF (or 35mm) body.
