Hi
Whilst taking pictures of the moon and mars last night using my giottos tripod, i found it difficult to make fine adjustments when panning at full zoom. one slight move and i lost mars, had to zoom out again to find it which was rather frustrating!!!

Can anyone recommend a tripod head that allows fine adjustments.

Much appreciated.

Panning the moon?

that's a first on here I can tell you!

I agree with the geared head.

I agree with the geared head.

More expensive telescopes have tracking function. For the moon I'd try to use them and find a dSLR adapter.

A geared head would be nice too. I am also contemplating one.

Just bought a manfrotto 410 geared head and I can't believe how easy it is now to make the adjustments - turn the large knob to roughly position, then slowly wind the small knob until you are positioned precisely where you want to be! Same applies in all three directions.
