Yes
It keeps happening not sure why , but im pressing the button and it wont take a picture. I was taking a photo of this landscape and this helicopter appeared in my view , i waited till the helicopter was just about near enough and pressed the button. NOTHING HAPPENED

There was a little light blinking in the bottom corner , when the helicopter went over my head and out of view the camera decided to work. I do not have this problem with the sigma zoom 300mm lens and also this kit lens has alot of dust behind the lens but doesn't show up on photos.

You havn`t got it on timer, have you?

Seems to obvious I know, but, well,I have made the same error.....:bonk:

Trust me it was not on timer :) besides it goes beep beep beep when its on a timer lol

It's just happened numorus times before and only with the kit lens

sounds like it may not be locking on focus?

There was a little light blinking in the bottom corner

Put it on manual focus and it will fire no matter what.....

Yeh that was probably it , shame my eyesight isn't great with manual focusing LOL. I might try with one shot AF , still though utterly gutted i didn't get the helicopter in my shot close up :(

I've had that a couple of times when the lens has failed to focus, but that's normally cos what I'm pointing it at is within the min focus distance or that's not enough for the AF system to lock onto ... Dirty contacts on the lens maybe ?

The blinking light means it isn't focused and won't take the picture. How you get your camera to take the picture in this condition probably depends on the camera model - some can be set to override, I think many cannot. As mentioned previously, manual focus setting is one way. A small aperture will usually take care of slightly inaccurate focusing.
