I think the smoke is more of interest than the flame (for me anyway). I would consider just photographing the smoke and lighting it a bit more brightly. Perhaps even play with the WB or Hue adjustments to get some whacky smoke colours.

I mainly went for the flame the smoke was an added bonus during the shoot. I have not started on my smoke pics yet, may leave the match as its fairly limited lol
Nicely done Robbo, the only thing I might change would be in PP to make the match stick a little more wooden. The first stick is a touch on the blue side to my eyes.
