Firefox 5 Released

I was surprised when I got the upgrade message but have put it on one machine to see how I get on with it - as above, I too am only just getting used to FF4.
 
I'm not sure how it could be worse! It is a memory sucker. Most FF releases have been. Only the last few generations of 3.6 haven't been sneakily hoovering it all.

I'm stuck with 3.6 releases on Tiger as 4 I don't think runs on it. Not a bad thing really as there are a few quirks with it.
 
The Photome and Fxif plug-ins won't work with it yet, so I'm holding off.

The speed of version upgrade does seem rather quick on this!
 
This release has been without all the normal fanfare, and it's come very quick after 4.0.1.
So what happened to the normal in-between versions , we had 3.5 and 3.6 before the whole number jump to 4.

EDIT: I now read they are going to have 4 major release a year and we will be up to Firefox 7 before the end of the year. I think I'll just wait till then and go from 4 to 7 in one leap.

I here is still sucks up memory, and I'm not moving until the add-on folk have upgraded all the ones I use.

a lot of the add-ons won't work with it yet. :(

I think they want to leap frog number 9, why that would be I have no idea....:whistling:

I just wish extension writers can catch up, I miss the Febe extension.
 
I downloaded firefox 5 yesterday, now I can't get into my emails when I log in I get "You have undefined new mails in your inbox" :'(
 
Wasn't convinced by V4 as it seemed unstable to me. Constantly getting 'not responding.'
V5 hasn't started out well either. Only loaded it yesterday and had 3 'not respondings' and a session restore failure. Also can't use Foxtabs which I found very handy.
Hmm.. Anyone else have a viable alternative -NOT IE! :lol:
 
No big problems for me so far, although the babelfish transalation extension isn't compatible yet.
 
Exif viewer hasn't caught up yet, and I still miss the proper drop down back button of 3.6. One 'Back' Step is not enough especially with sites that have dynamic page refreshes.

Hold down you left mouse button on the back button and the list will drop down. Or do a single right click on it.

Yes i just press and hold the back (or forward) button and the history list appears ;)
 
Only real alternative to FF is Opera. I haven't used it for years as it got bloaty and annoying too. So I moved to FF which was for a while much better.

I swapped to Opera 11 after FF4 slowed my laptop to a crawl. For me, it was much much better - the only issue I have is with some youtube pages not displaying the video, but dragging the page down then back refreshes it & it becomes visible.
I think Moz realise they dropped the ball with 4 so rushed out a fix for the memory issues & moved up a version. So far FF5 is as fast as Opera (fingers crossed)

Yeahh, I understood it when most of my adds-on wouldn't run on updated version... Hope that soon they will be compatiable with the 5th version.

Has anyone noticed that the ctrl+f / find function as of Firefox 4/5 is case sensitive? Super annoying...
 
I'm finding FF5 ok on my MBP, liking it as much as Chrome, it doesn't seem as good on Windows though :shrug:
