Currently using IE7 & OE on WXP.

I keep reading/hearing that Firefox is a superior browser and am considering trying it out.

Anyone say if there are any pitfalls in changing over?

Do all security settings and favourites transfer automatically?

Is a new email client automatically installed too?

It has been firefox for me for at least 5 years. Used it on my Win machines and on my macs now. Actually there is no one in my house, 4 computers, who use IE.

Bookmarks can be exported from IE and the email client, thunderbird I think, is a seperate download so dont have to use it if you dont want, I dont.

For me no pitfalls Firefox if far superior imho.

i use firefox for everything, very easy to use and a real easy tab system. Go for it, i was using safari for a while but started to have problems so i reverted back.
 
same here. security is better if anything than IE, and you can transfer all bookmarks and most security/Antivirus programs recognise it automatically. I lost my ragg with it after updating to IE7 because it was sooooooo sloooooooowwwww... and ended up deleting it from my machine. Opera is also a good browser to check out.

IE7 was when I made the move too
 
use both, dont notice much difference myself, few of the plugins are useful though, like the auto spell checking in FF for one
 
Try Firefox, after all if you don't like it, you can always go back to IE (Unlikely - though I use both here).

Thunderbird is a great email client - but it needs rather more setting up than OE which may not be an attractive feature :)

Its not really crossing over, you will still have IE, so pick and choose with both installed.
I use both to make sure website run on both browsers.
I dont know why but i think firefox is better, seems a lighter package and crashes less.

At least when Firefox crashes it knows it did and asks if you want to go back to what you were doing.

I have my PC running 24/7 and I find that crashes are rare, but occasionally Firefox seems to have rather a lot of the resources. I just restart to fix that.
 
The only problem with FF is at the initial startup when it takes forever to come up.

Once it's up it is easier to use than IE.

Always laughed at the IE knockers when I had IE6 but have been using FF for the last 4 months and very seldom use IE these days.

I'll be trying Firefox.
 
Use firefox on my laptop and sometimes on desktop find it faster and better than the package that comes with BT
 
I love firefox because you can make it look how you want with loads of different downloadable themes and add ons. i have got a handy FTP prog that is superb attached to mine which is dead handy.
