Yes
Must have been hiding somewhere, but I only recently discovered HDR.

Still not sure if I like it - first attempt taken with my lowly Canon compact

The Photmatix software calls the effect 'Painterly' but 'Cartoonish' sums up a lot of the attempts I have made so far.

I'm still going to play with it some more but I think it might be the modern equivalent of the overused Cokin filters from the 70's ;)

Needs more definition ,looks too flat for me

You need to take a look some HDR images, and see how some are processed, now i belong to this HDR forum, and its only HDR with somewhere in the region of 8,000 images in the main gallery, and sub galleries branching from the main page.

Thanks for those links

Lots of interesting stuff there and great to see the results when it's done properly !

No problems g4gxl.

Look for my postings on this section.

Neath castle and Saint Thomas church, both done in HDR, and remember i also am a beginner at HDR just like you.
Its surprising with the right advice how quickly you can improve your technique and processing.

Best regards Paul

To be honest I cant see HDR helped this shot, the idea of hdr is to get a full tonal range it looks very light and too bright, and washed out, an very little contrast, think I would like to see the original image, as hdr has done nothing for this scene, JMHO (y) i do like the composition however (y)

Hi g4gxl.
i hope you don't mind, but i took your image and processed it just as i like my HDR images to be.

Now many on this forum will say "Its over done", but this is my personal taste, it may not even be yours but its only to give you some idea of what it could look like.

Now it has a dramatic sky, with a lot more contrast and color.

Best regards Paul
