First attempts with the new camera

New 50d so still working on my settings. Struggling to control my flash, the camera does not like my Sigma macro flash

.....looks like a new bracket making session this weekend.

Great clear shots. I also have tried this with a 50D. Can you tell me what lens you have used please?

I am using the Sigma 105 usually with one or more extension tubes

Great - That's the lens I have. Will have to try harder with the extension tubes out in the garden. The problem I had was getting the little buggers to stay still and a very shallow DOF. What settings do you use?

I use 1/250 f11 ISO 100 flash set usually to -1 1/3ev but this is all up in the air at the minute because i am used to my 450d and am still experimenting. For example i am finding i can get away with f14-f16 with the 50d. Brackets made so might all change when i try the 580ex this weekend.

Good shots, i think your biggest problem is the light. How are you diffusing the flash?

Really nice set of shots. I use the Sigma RF on the 50D, cant be bothered with the adjustable light output on each tube so put 2 strips of masking tape one side and 1 strip on the other side.

i have found my problem, the sigma flash was not making proper contact with the hot shoe so i have made a bracket to mount my 580ex.
will post results at the weekend
