Hi all, I would say that this is probably the weakest part of my photography and I really want to get more creative to supply a better product to my customers.

Do you have any examples of the way you light and the sorts of settings I should be trying? I have a whole host of external flash if I want so it doesn't have to be just ideas with onboard/bounced etc.

Thanks for taking time to help :)

really should post some of your own work so people know what level you are out and how you could improve

I can't submit a pic on here as an example as don't have this shot on my work PC, and haven't uploaded it to Flickr yet. However if you go to the wedding section of my website the 1st pic is a 1st dance shot:

Here it's lit with 2 flashes... one on either side of the dance floor, the one you can see is a bare strobe set to about 1/64 power. There's another in front of them shot with another strobe set to about 1/32 and shot through a shoot through umbrella. (obviously you'd need to play around with the power settings depending on how big the dance floor is / flashes are away from bride and groom).

It looks from your last few blog entries that you do some OCF work for your portraits?

If you do, what gear are you using?

I found that my favourite 1st dance shots are always those lit with OCF - unless you're very lucky with the DJ lights.
I'll not repeat what I wrote here recently
