Hello everybody!

Until now i have been pretty much sure to get a Canon. Firstly i was after the 600D, but now theres the new 650D that brings few better upgrades over 600D.

Secondly theres the Nikon D5100 ... is there a new Nikon coming aswell? (D5200?)...

Budget is limited around 700£ mark (cheapest 650D kit i found is 723£).

Also there is avaliable to get a 550D kit used 3 months for 390£.

Brotherinlaw got himself an Pentax K-10 or something. I dont know i really dont like Pentax cameras. Feel off in hand.

So what you who have cameras can tell out of your own experince what i should do?

Two choices... Buy new.... Buy used but perhaps get a better body and or lens :)



Have you been to the store and handled as many brands as possible? Check the menus and the kit lenses in the store too. Drop hints you'd be interested in buying, but not sure which and whether there are any deals / offers ('free' memory cards, interest free credit, cheaper lenses in a bundle etc).
Tell them to write down the codes/camera models and you'll think about it...
wander off home check the cameras on sites like dpreview and here for those you liked the most.

If you are just beginning and unsure, then the older models might be better to go with as you wont lose as much on them should you not like photography. If the bug bites though you'll be spending loads ;)

For purposes of trying out Jessops would have a better set of available cameras to try I would think. You may need to take what they say with a pinch of salt though...
 
Also - if the bug does bite you may be wanting to hold the later models - just as a getting to know the future :)

Nikon / Canon have some mid/top end cameras, worth holding them too.

Jessops if there is a bigger store, pc world/blacks/curries - just note down or ask the sales people to note down prices and models... :)
 
Just to point out, places like digitalrev are based in Hong Kong and you maybe charged import duty and taxes + the body won't be covered by canon warranty outside of HK
Lenses are covered by canon international warranty however.

Well i have read a lot about them and all seems to be good, only few bad experinces. So ill think ill take a shot and see myself.
 
I agree, I think I got my 40d from them years ago (or it might have been one-stop digital) just thought I'd point out the customs and warranty implications. Check there websites I think they might also offer to cover any customs costs on some items. I would also look at www.flashcamera.co.uk if your not put off by grey imports, Ian (kerso on the forums) who runs flashcamera supplys a UK invoice and sells from the UK so no customs issues, I know plenty of people including me have spent big money with him over the years and not heard any negative reviews about him

You know the VAT and duties will be around £140 bringing it up to £760.

Saving £20 and getting no UK warranty, mmmmm.

But on their site under the camera says price includes all vat duty ect?
And most people who have commented in forums say the service is good...

And i chatted with em saying that all is inclusive in price.

And to get same kit about 150£ cheaper would be great.

I just bought a Nikkor 300mm f4 from Digital Rev. Ordered Thursday evening and arrived (from Hong Kong Monday morning!) Tracked delivery. Superb service and I would definately use them again.

Seems like i am going to try them out aswell. Will post here when order placed and will update all the way.
 
I've just bought a 650D from www.panamoz.com and got a great deal. I've just had a look at their kits and seen this http://panamoz.com/index.php/digita...0d-with-canon-ef-s-18-55mm-is-ii-kit-697.html which would be a great starter kit. The 650D is really great, easy to use and feature packed and I can highly recommend Panamoz as a supplier. I've had 2 bodies and 3 lenses off them this year and on average it takes 4 days from purchase to delivery.
As for the warranty, I've not had to claim on any item I've bought (6 bodies and around 20 lenses from various suppliers) and never had any problem with any of it, but at worst you'll have to return it to Panamoz first and they get the warranty work done for you and return it, it would only take an extra few days, and could save you a lot of money.
 
Well looks like i got now two places to order from. Will have a bit more Google and decide later.
 
I want to buy filters. Is there difference between cheap (few quid) or Hoya-s (those were reccommended?).

Tuesday going to order the camera. So when that comes i want main stuff to be ready. Class 10 16GB memory card ordered.
Would be really dumb, if i would get camera first and no memory card :D
