C+C welcome :)

Love the first.
Power stations can make great subjects.

I regret not being properly into photography while Blyth Power Station was still there.

Thanks guys :) Wanted to get closer but didn't want to get taken for a terrorist! Has happened once before, long story..........:D

Thanks Robbie :)

Hi,

I think two are great for starting out with night shots, but with a few tweaks, you could get the next ones to shine.

#1
I would stand further back, and offset it to the left of the frame. I would then take two exposures. One for the foreground colours, and another designed to get an insane sky. I would also choose my white balance in camera, to maximise some nice sky colours.

#2
Similar comments with regards to 2 exposures (foreground vs sky), but I also feel Arthurs Seat is too little a focal point at the moment, and this shot is way to wide. From that location, I would consider a telephoto for the job.

I quite fancy shooting down that way at night, I can give you a shout if I do it.

Gary.

Thanks Gary :)

Arthurs Seat being in the frame was a fluke, I was really trying to capture the sky but it was so windy the clouds got blurred :(

Thats what you wan't nice blurry clouds, just more wind and much longer exposures....

You can get some cool results:

All of the use the same technique in terms of allowing the wind and clouds to play. Obviously most of them are extreme examples, but more so as a result of the white balance tricks (create unreal colours).

Now they are cool Gary (y) Was too cold to muck about too much but will get out and have another go soon hopefully :)

The thing that makes good night shots stand out is the sharpness of the static things in the shot. Your power station is blurry and even if the exposure was perfect that would still spoil it. The light pollution shot looks better as the distant lights look reasonably sharp. Might be worth weighing your tripod down with something to improve stability?

Thanks for the tip Robert, it was pretty blowy right enough so there might have been a slight wobble :)
