First try at the ISS

It'll probably be winter by the time I can do the attempt. Unfortunately, I start fading quite badly by about 8pm so I'll need a clear night just after the clocks go back! I'll also need to get a fellow member to let me use his lens/converter and he lives about 1/2 an hour away.

Stuart's advice seems pretty good. Atmospheric wobbles are exactly like heat haze (in fact, heat haze IS a type of atmospheric wobble!) so do nasty things to shots.

TBH, I find it fairly remarkable that we can get any sort of image showing the actual shape of an object that's a little over 100m along its longest axis and is over 250 miles away at its closest let alone the fact that it's moving past us at 17,100MPH (figures taken from Wiki.)

Finally, to echo Derek, thanks for the advice and words of wisdom, Stuart.
