Fish behind glass

Hi there all, I have a question. I am due to visit Sea Life shortly and in the past I have taken pictures of the fish behind the glass but to be quite honest I have never really been happy with them. The biggest problem is the darkness of the areas but when you put flash on you just end up with a picture of flashlight on glass.
Any suggestions on composition and exposure would be really appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation of your replies, Keith

Polarising filters help alot but they can take some getting used to for some people.

High ISO, wide aperture, no flash. Get as close to the glass as you can.

Polarisers can help, but you loose up to 2 stops of light, which in an already dark environment isn't always possible.

I went to Birmingham recently too, but didn't take many shots as it was so crowded and just not all that interesting.

Tom - The birmingham one is like the black hole of Calcutta..... plus, the underwater tube is scratched to hell and the fish don't do what you tell them

Thanks for you kind advice and by the way nice pictures Tom. I just hope I am able to replicate. Thanks again, Keith

A flxible rubber lens hood pressed up against the glass will reduce reflections. If you're allowed a tipod, use that (if the fish are still enough!) and a polariser. HTH
