Can someone point me in the right direction to purchase a decent fisheye lens for a canon 7d please.
 
Do you want a full frame fisheye or a circular fisheye? Your best choice is the Sigma 10mm (full frame) or the Sigma 4.5mm (circular), but they're very different lenses.
 
Another one to consider is the Tokina 10-17mm, which is another "full frame" fisheye. To save any confusion "full frame" when referring to a fisheye lens means that the image covers the entire area of the picture,rather than being for ff cameras. A "circular" one , on the other hand, just produces a circular image in the centre of the picture, leaving the corners black.

I've never been able to get my head around fisheye "terms" and thats just really helped :D Thanks

Your choices have already been mentioned above-Sigma 10mm,Tokina 10-17mm and Samyang 8mm(assuming you want full frame and not circular).

I've owned all 3 and IQ is a wash between all 3.They all suffer from fringing but so do all fisheye lenses.For a crop Canon I would pick the Samyang.It might be all manual but it doesn't make a jot of difference with a lens like that.It is also the cheapest of the 3 lenses.

If you have a grand to spend there's also the new Canon 8-15mm L lens.That works on a crop camera and a full frame camera and looks rather peachy.Should add that the Tokina also works on a crop and full frame camera.

Ive just recived my 8mm samyang fisheye and its great not had much chance to get any decent shots as its dark when i leave for work and the same when i get home week off next week so trip to london i think

Why does it defeat the point?

Apart from circular fisheyes the standard size Fisheye is 15mm on a full frame camera.The Tokina gives you this and also works from 10mm on a crop camera.It also works at 13mm on a 1.3 crop camera.
Once again,don't get your point?

I think he is just refering to the fact that if you ONLY have a FF camera, you might as well get a prime lens.

Does anyone have any experience with the Tokina?

My point is why would you buy a lens designed for a crop sensor if it offers no benefit over one designed for full frame in the first place? :shrug:
 
The Tokina just offers flexability.There's no difference in IQ to separarte the lenses so it just becomes a good choice.I'm speaking from personal experience here.
I set off with the Sigma 15mm FE on a 5D2.I then moved to a 7D so had to sell the 15mm.I picked up the Samyang 8mm.I then changed again to a 1DS3/1D4 so the Samyang had to go.I eventually ended up with a Tokina 10-17mm which worked on my 1D4,60D and my 5D2.It would have been so much easier to have went for the Tokina in the first place.
The only stupid part of my story is that I've now sold the Tokina in a moment of madness.My dilema is now whether to pick up another one or pick up the new 8-15L. The latter is a very very nice lens(I really shouldn't have tried one out!).

I'm looking at just getting one of those Opteka add-on lens thingys. £30 to play around with, see if I like what I shoot with it etc. If I do, then I am seriously considering the Tokina, but with the low use, I dont want to cough up a small packet for it. One stop digital have them for sale at around £400 which isnt too bad, however there is a few more bits of kit to get before I get some fun stuff

Just ordered one of these myself. Was tempted with the tokina as people rate it highly but judging by the test results I've seen the canon out performs the tokina Rightfully so with the price difference.
