Hi All,
So, I have managed to get roped in to going to see the Diamond Jubilee flotilla in June. We are going to be at a pub on the south bank (not sure where) and was wondering what would be the best lens to hire for the occasion?
I currently have a 55-200 (F4-5.6) but would like to get a bit closer and maybe get a piccy of the queen!! My dilemma is this...do I hire a 70-200 F2.8 and a teleconvertor (advice if this is a good combo would be appreciated) or a 200-400 F4?
My only problem with the 70-200 is that I know that I will probably love it and want to buy one :love:

Not knowing much about Nikon but knowing what it's like not having quite enough reach when you need it I'd go for the longest zoom you can. I've just bought a Sigma 150-500 OS so I don't come up short again. I had a 100-400 L for the Royal Wedding and still wasn't really happy. Just that little bit more would of turned a good shot into a great shot. I didn't really want to go to that either, but it gave me an excuse to get some gear for it though.

Not sure how ridiculous a 500 would look on my little D5000!!
Ken, think I would be swiftly divorced for even entertaining the idea of buying a lens that big ;)
Anyone else got any suggestions? How about the 70-200 with a 1.7 or 2x TC?
 
And they say that size doesn't matter :)
In fact she quite likes my 35mm ;)
 
I gave up carting huge lenses to events, my pics were never as good as the professionals with proper access and it's a PITA to carry about, and everyone looks at you like you're a bit odd....

I'd probably just take a something like a 35 or 50 and try and get loads of candids of the crowd and the boats going past, then look in the paper for a nice pic of her maj!

(also much easier to carry home when you've had a few, apparently...... )
 
Cheers Mike. Probably a fair point but I really fancy hiring a decent lens for the day. Will take the 35 as well to get some candids.
