Floodlit Football with this kit?

Hello all,

A few doors have recently opened for me and I've got the chance to shoot at a professional football match, although it's at night.

Bearing in mind the floodlights are at a professional stadium I'm fully aware floodlights aren't that kind to cameras.

My question is, will I get an useable shots with the below kit?

Canon 30D
Canon f4 L 70-200mm lens.

Can anyone suggest what settings to hover around at? I was thinking of

ISO800 - 1600
Aperture wide open at f4
Shutter speed similar to sunny daytime football 640 or 1000 to freeze the action.

Thoughts?

Should be fine have a look at mine at Molineux earlier this year with a 350D and 70-210 f4

That's not floodlit for a night match though is it??

Don't think you'll get those shutter speeds with F4 and ISO 1600. Sorry but you're gonna be a lot slower than that - unless the floods are VERY good.

Off the top of my head probably 1/160 if you're lucky.

So do you think it'll be achievable at them shutter speeds or am I fighting a losing battle??
