I have posted this image in Animals and Nature alongside a dragonfly in-flight, and Nigpd suggested it should go here as well. I heard this adult swan coming by its distinctive wing beat and shot off 17 frames (maxing out the buffer on the 40D). This one was the best.

Hi, love watching them take off, there is a lot of effort involved, always seems touch and go they will actually get airborne.

I always use single shot mode,(even on those Migrant Hawker flight shots) never going to max out a buffer, always ready then for the shot of a lifetime that by sods law will present itself the second your buffer locks
