Focus point on open cockpit cars

Just going through my Goodwood FoS pictures and trying to work out the best focus point for open cockpit cars. Going through mine I have some where the focus is on the front of the car but that doesn't look right with the drivers helmet slightly blurred but then on shots where the helmet is sharp the front of the car is blurred which also looks wrong.

I know ideally the whole car would be sharp but it's hard with 3/4 shots

Is there a best practice for which part should be sharp or do people take it on a picture by picture basis on what looks right?

Depends on the shot tbh. post some up.

That's what I'm finding. Some shots just suit one over the other. I'll get some up eventually. Got BTCC, British GT, Goodwood and DTM now in my backlog.

Increase the depth of field, that will help getting the whole car sharp.

That's actually a very good point! I've got so used to shooting wide open through fences that I've forgotten all about aperture control when there aren't any!

Be interested to see the DTM's as I went too, found it hard work Sat with the wind and rain. Then the crowds today.
