First off I should explain I'm quite colour-blind and whilst that actually isn't an issue with 99% of what I do, I believe it is hindering my ability to pick out the selected focus point specifically on single point with my D3s. Under certain circumstances I find it impossible to see which is my selected point - even moving it around and I'm finding I have to put my hands over the front of the lens so I can pick it out against the darkness. I can then normally stick with it as I move it around once I know its starting point!
The same cannot be said for any other Nikon body I've had, including other 51-point focus bodies, the D700 and D800e. By extension I also assume I wouldn't therefore have a problem with the D4 (being the same as the D800)
On the D3s I have the latest firmware and the points set to maximum brightness in the menu - but find it's still too faintly lit/doesn't stand out at all for me under lighter conditions or outdoors against greens/browns and it's really getting to me. I'm surprised it doesn't seem to be the same as the D700 which preceded it which alongside my D800/e has a much more defined intensity and colour to its focus points which I can see perfectly fine under all lighting and conditions.
The questions is therefore to anyone else with a D3s and D700/D800/D4 or experience of one or more of those. Do you notice a difference in how intensely the focus points can be seen through the VF? Is the D3s naturally fainter?
I'm wondering if perhaps some component is on it's way out (I am second owner).
