Focus Screens.....

Anyone have any direct experience with using different focus screens??

I am talking 5D2 & screens to help with accurate focus & manual focus with thin DOF & also macro too I guess.

I have an old Yashica 35mm & that has what I think is called split-prism for manual focusing.

I've heard the stories of dark viewfinders but my smallest aperture lens is the 17-40L at f/4 & that's usually set at hyperfocal anyway....

Any info/thoughts & places to purchase appreciated

I have always used the matte precision screens for my 5D and 6D. The 6D takes the same screen as the 5D2 - the EG-S. Yes, it's a bit darker, but when shooting at f/1.4 indoors, I can always nail focus. The depth of field is spot on i.e. at apertures larger than f/2.8 there is more bokeh viewable through the viewfinder.

I changed the screen in my 1Ds mk2 to a gridded screen to aid composition, it was only a 5 minute job to change

Thanks both. More & more tempted to try one out.

I mainly shoot 50/1.4 & the recently bought 135L & do tend to shoot pretty close to wide open.
