focussing screens (5dII paticuarly)

Hi all,

Does anyone run a different focussing screen. I'm thinking of the manual focus one as I find myself using MF a fair bit and would like to be more accurate in viewfinder (can always nail with liveview zoom when tripod mounted).

This is just an idea pootling around my head atm not 100% on it. Also considering some v sharp primes but dunno if the IQ improvements are worth it over L zooms.

I noticed canon make a screen and cats eye don't for the 5d atm. Do screens alter the AF system performance(I don't think they should but aint sure).

Also is it likely to object to my 15-30 f3.5-4.5 sigma (an experiment in UWA)

I use a Katz Eyes split prism in a 40D and 50D for macro....certainly makes manual focus more reliable

There's no effect on AF performance but metering in certain modes needs a little EV adjustment.

My 5D has a menu option for the different canon screens, you select the right one and it alters the metering accordinly.

The Canon screens are different matte etchings and are universal opacity across the surface so a CFn based metering calibration works fine.

Split prism screens have varying opacity in different regions so a CFn would have to be configured for each metering mode. As this these type of screen aren't in the Canon options, they don't cater for them.

yeah it was a split I was hunting for (and tbh if spot metering still works it's ok as I tend to spot meter a tone and the manually expose from there). the katz eye people didn't make a 5dI one either on their site so I guess holding out for a 5dII one is a tad silly

any other ideas?
