ok thinking of getting up early to get some misty shots!!!!
i have never took shots in fog or mist before so would welcome any tips and any ideas on composition !
should i go to my usual spots or is there something that always works ?

thanks

hopefully getting up early to do this myself tomorrow, make sure you take a tripod as like is normally poor.

No idea what works yet, try googling "fog/mist photos" and see what you like :D

Or just do what I did. Switch off flash, leave in auto and just point :)

Would have been much better with some sunshine breaking through.

mist with a bit of sunshine can make even the most boring scene attractive.

Can't say the same with fog though. I usually find that fog doesn't look as good in my pictures as the real thing :D

I think shots with fog/mist work well when there is something breaking through from a highier viewing point, like some buildings, hills etc.

I'm too lazy either in bed or at work to take early morning shots.

That's the only bonus with winter. Sunrise is at a much more convenient time :)

All last Autumn I was waiting for a really misty but sunny morning to try and get a particular shot in the woods near me - the combination I wanted did not happen, so hopefully this year it might.

I think you should think about what you would like to achieve - why you are going out in the mist and then experiment to achieve that shot - or just go out and see what happens
:D

Technically, I watch the metering and treat it like a big grey card. More often than not I have to dial in a stop of overexposure.

Most interesting mist patterns I see when I'm on the motorway and therefore doing, erm, 70mph [officer] and unfortunately I never have the time to stop! Pity, because the perfect landscape light occurs during my drive to work at this time of year....

Maybe one day I'll force myself up even earlier and take advantage of the pre-dawn...
