Tried out my new 100-400 f5.6 lens. By and large impressed on the first outing. Pretty peeved that I missed the Little Grebe's passing right infornt of the hide whilst the lens was still in it's case :bang: otherwise nothing remarkable. Ospray was stayed the far side of of the lagoon so didn't get anything of him.

C&C welcomed.

Great shots Steve, dont know if its my monitor but the Heron in No 1 looks a bit out of focus, especially on the head, or could be camera movement.

I kept looking at the Heron and couldn't quite decide. I took 8-10 shots and all the heads looked the same :crying: The body looks sharp, so I can't quite figure what's going on with the head.

It usually takes a bit of practice getting used to a long lens, so you should be able to get better as time goes on and your technique improves.

I was using a mono pod, I know not quite as stable as a tripod, but the IS was switched on and the shutter speed was 1/640. I would have thought that should have been enough for a sharp image, even at 400mm.

Hi again Steve, could possibly be DOF. Do you know what aperture you used?

steve have you maybe not sharpened #1 for the web? and #2 a bit soft, but love the others....great composition and sharpness and #5 a cracker!

I really need to get myself down to Rutland water, It's litereally on my doorstep and I've never been!

How rude!
