Frozen 5D

My Canon 5D completely froze today on a job whilst I was deleting the images from an 8GB CF (SanDisk Extreme III). It's never happened before and, after a moment of panic, I removed the battery grip and started again. The battery grip (with two batteries, one Canon and one Canon type) also ran out of juice after only a three hour shoot.

Strange, this has never happened before. Has anyone else come across this? The freezing thing that is...
 
This freezing has happened to me a number of times and also to a friend of mine who also has a 5D with grip. Like you, the only way we got things going again was to remove the grip and start from scratch. I remember there being lots of threads on this very subject probably about two years ago, but there was never any reason given by Canon for the problem. Sorry I can't be of much more help, I think it's something you are just going to have to live with :(
