Fuji response to problems mounting the 56mm on a tripod...

Really disappointed to hear that if i want to tripod mount my 56mm f1.2 along with my XE2 i have to purchase a metal hand grip which gives greater clearance and allows the lens to be mounted. Having used every Canon camera i've ever owned with a tripod for free this p***es me off. If they know there's a problem because of their design they should include something for free with the lens. Really poor.

This is what i've been advised to purchase.

The NEW metal hand grip is a more substantial grip with milled metal base, in keeping with the quality of the X Series. It offers an improved lens height to facilitate easier use with tripods, access to battery / SD card slot whilst mounted on the camera and ensures the tripod mount is in line with the optical axis.

 
I'm not sure of your problem Scott, why would you need to mount your lens on a tripod. Is the 56mm a very big lens, cant you just mount the camera on the tripod, am I missing something obvious?

Hi Steve,

That is the problem mate. With the XE2 on the tripod mount the 56mm is jammed right against the mounting plate as it's too bulky for the camera meaning you cannot turn any of the rings without damaging the lens. It's not the lens but the camera i am mounting. I should have been clearer.

I don't think I've ever mounted an 85mm lens on a tripod. What are you shooting?

I'm not using F1.2 for it but even if i was thats surely my choice? If fuji make lenses that are too big for tripods when mounted to their bodies they should provide something to give you the appropriate clearance. It's ridiculous. I'm using my one and only fuji lens which i bought as it's supposed to be their best lens and low and behold it can't be tripod mounted without more hardware.
 
Or the knurled fastener that used to hold (n)ever ready cases onto bodies in "the old days"! They would give about 1/2" extra clearance under the body which should allow a QR plate to be used with that lens. It might take a little looking but you'll probably find one in a charity shop somewhere or possibly in an odds'n'sods box at an old fashioned camera shop.

In the shot in the posted link, it's the big brassy looking bit on the bottom of the case. In the original application it holds the case to the camera and allows a tripod to be mounted outside the case. Someone may well make similar things for exactly the use you need it for - it's an easy enough gizmo to make if you've got the right kit!
